Which is more expensive: the brick or the tile?

The price tag for a brick house in New York City is a little less than $400,000, according to a study from RealtyTrac, which specializes in selling property in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

A tile flooring in Philadelphia is around $600,000.

A marble bathroom in San Francisco is a shade over $700,000 — a steep price for a house that was designed by architect Thomas Heatherwick.

“I’d rather have the marble,” said Robert Taggart, who lives in a brick and tile condo in East Brunswick, N.J., and paid $1.2 million for his condo in 2018.

But he said that he doesn’t mind the price tag because he’s not worried about the mold problem.

“It’s just a different feel,” he said.

The New York study also found that a home with marble floors and a tile roof can cost about $1,000 more than a comparable house without any of the marble.

Taggert, who bought his condo on the east side of the city for $2.7 million in 2005, said he was thrilled to find a house with a marble flooring.

“There are a lot of people who are living in the middle of the country that can’t afford to live in a house without marble,” he explained.

“But this house was designed for people who have that luxury.”

While a marble bathroom is more upscale than a tile one, Taggers condo is far more spacious than most.

“We’re very comfortable in our living spaces,” he quipped.

And, Taggers condo also includes a pool.

“You can walk to the ocean and go swimming.

It’s great,” he added.

The study found that only 4 percent of buyers of marble homes were willing to pay the full $500,000 price tag, while 27 percent were willing only $100,000 for a single bathroom.

The majority of buyers said they wanted to own a home that was both a stone-roofed and a marble-floored house, and only about 10 percent of respondents said they would be willing to spend $1 million or more on a home.

But, the researchers noted, buyers could also opt for a more affordable flooring option.

“If a marble wall or tile is the best option, we don’t think there’s much of a problem,” said Chris Burt, a real estate analyst with Realty Trac.

“The problem is, there are many people who think that it’s an issue of affordability.

But there’s a lot more than that.”

Taggerton said he plans to use the renovation to add a walk-in closet to his bathroom and to remodel the house’s interior.

He also said that the renovation will make the condo more attractive to buyers who might not be able to afford to buy a home today.

“This is the right decision for us,” Taggett said.

“Not only will I be making this a little more attractive, but I’ll be doing it in a way that’s not expensive.”
